Selecting the perfect duvet can be confusing. Our guide describes the differences between the various options and will help you make the correct decision.
To find the perfect duvet, first consider which type of filling you prefer, synthetic or natural and how warm you want to be?
Non-allergenic and washable are the perfect solution for those who have allergies. Cotton Touch is a soft, plump duvet with a 100% cotton cover, suitable for all of the family.
Spun down has an incredibly fine micro fibre filling that enables all sizes to be washed at home at 60°C, the temperature that kills dust mites – a common cause of asthma and allergies.
Natural duvets have the benefit of being both durable and naturally breathable. Down, the lightest of all the fillings comes from the breast of the bird and its unique ability to trap air makes it exceptionally light. It is also luxurious, soft and fluffy, as it doesn't contain feather quills.
Feathers, which do contain quills, aren't quite as soft and light, and more filling is needed to achieve the same tog rating, as they aren't as thermally efficient as down. The higher the down content, the lighter, better quality and more durable the product will be. Down filled duvets should last for at least 20 years and feather and down blends for 10 years.
Fill power is a measure used to determine the quality of feather and down. The higher the fill power, the better the duvet. A high fill power also indicates that the product will retain its performance for many more years.
The covers of our natural duvets are of cassette pocket construction, which keeps the filling evenly distributed and prevents cold spots.
Once you have decided which filling you then need to decide how warm you want to be. The tog rating indicates this. Tog is a measure of warmth, the higher the tog the warmer the duvet.
13.5 tog is wonderfully warm so ideal for winter, 10.5 tog offers medium warmth for spring and autumn, 4.5 tog is cool so ideal for summer and Four Seasons consists of a 4.5 tog and a 9.0 tog. The Four Seasons you can use them separately or put the two together in winter.
A pillow should support your head and neck comfortably so you get a good night's sleep. To find the perfect pillow, first decide what level of support you need; soft, medium or firm? This depends on how you sleep.
Generally soft is best if you sleep on your front, medium if on your back and firm if on your side.
The second is to choose the type of filling you prefer, natural or synthetic? If you are allergic to feathers or down, or need to wash your pillow frequently, a synthetic filling is best. With natural fillings the more feathers there is in a pillow, the firmer it tends to be. Down filled pillows are the softest.
Synthetic pillows offer more support than natural.
Most of our pillows are now filled with polyester clusters, that means they can be re-plumped and mould easily to the shape of your head.
Our fine micro fibre pillows feel just like down. They are washable in a domestic machine.
Down is the finest and softest pillow filling and offers soft-medium support that moulds to the head.
Adding feather to the pillow adds more support.
